Do you find yourself dreading Monday mornings and wishing your weekends could be longer? Perhaps you’re stuck in a cubicle job and feeling unfulfilled. You long for the ability to set your own work schedule and spend more time travelling the world. Or perhaps you already own your own business but haven’t reached the goals you’d set for yourself. Maybe you’re feeling confused, overwhelmed, and struggling to get your big ideas off the ground. Whatever the case may be, here are some things you can do right now, during these first few weeks of the new year, to ensure your success as an entrepreneur this year:

If you find yourself getting overwhelmed with the number of items on your to-do list:

Remember your business goals, your vision, your values and your focus for 2017. If you start comparing yourself to others and wondering if you need to change course, remind yourself of what your goals are. What is important to you? If you’re working on creating a new website for your business, you’re passionate about the project, and know it will be a big help, don’t feel like you also have to create a mobile app just because a competitor is doing so. Focus on making your website the best it can be. It’s fine to take note of what is working for others, or to put other goals on a long-term to-do list, but first ask yourself what matters most for your business. This clarity takes out the need to compare, guilt, or shame ourselves for not being at the same place in our business that someone else is in their business.

If you find yourself feeling like you’re not good enough:

Sometimes, when we get into the habit of constantly comparing ourselves to others or seeking external validation, we become intimidated by successful business owners. We might find ourselves feeling like we aren’t good enough because we don’t have as many clients or make as much money per month as someone else. Or we might feel frightened that our competitor is more organised, or has a way bigger team, or is going to continue making higher profits than we currently do.

Try to resist the urge to play into this scarcity mindset. Instead of giving in to these fears, we can find mentors, look for ways that we can learn from others, and perhaps even reach out to other successful business owners for ideas, advice, or answers to some of our questions. Remember, everyone starts somewhere.

If you find yourself needing some help:

None of us have it all figured out. That’s not what running a business is all about. Remember, we all need support from time to time, and other entrepreneurs are a great resource for help and support. If you don’t already have one, find a mentor. Use the resources you have, rather than shutting them out because you are afraid of asking questions or looking silly. Nobody has it all together all the time. Resist the urge to feel pressured to know it all, and instead reach out, make new friends, and strengthen your relationships with other business owners. You never know how you’ll be able to help each other down the road.

It is possible to achieve every single goal you set yourself as a business owner. You just need to have the right mindset, stay focused, keep working towards your goals, and always surround yourself with positive, supportive people. Hopefully, the advice listed here helps you hit the ground running with your business this year so you never have to dread Mondays again.
